Saying Goodbye to DirectTV.

Penny and I decided about a month ago that we would be canceling our satellite TV subscription. We have the whole TiVo thing and the sports package, so this will be quite a big deal for us. We thought we could save a few bucks by eliminating $50+ per month and utilize the whole internet tv thing. Every show we watch is available on the web so we will try it out. It's kind of like we are an entertainment experiment. Has anyone tried this yet? How will it work? Will we be frusterated? I will report often.

You mean like, buying the shows on Itunes? Are there other ways of getting the shows on the Internet?

I'm intrigued.

you can watch on abc, nbc and eventually cbs and fox will have their broadcasts on the web. pretty cool huh?
we will be purchasing a mac mini (we did the math and figured in a year will save lots of cash; 1 payment for the computer vs. $50 per month forever with direct tv).

through each broacast company's site they will have shows available (for free). also, we bit-torrent which is downloading through a source community. this year smallville wasnt on down here so we would have it downloaded on fridays (for free)

I think it is a sweet idea, but what about sports?

I have been searching NBC.com and ABC.com and can't find where to download full shows. Am I just being dumb?

sports: if i really want to watch i can go to a local place or just follow on espn (gamecast), as for abc you can watch show as we speak and they will be addding more; nbc, fox, cbs will all be adding their shows soon. if worse comes to worse i'll just bit-torrent the shows i want or even itunes them.
