Firsts: Guys night out

Tonight was the first night it was just and my boys out on the town. Penny went out with some of the girls and I took Roman and JJ to the mall for some Chic-Fil-A and of coarse a stop by the Apple Store to introduce them to gadgetry. What did you do on this big Friday night out?

Schools Out Party

Last night we held our annual Student Ministry Schools Out Party. This year we did it a little different as we combined forces with my boy Billy in Port St. Lucie and invited some guest musicians as well as our house bands. All in all it was a great night and we were able to give students a night to remember! Thanks to Chic-Fil-A (Andrew!), Proverb, Luminacity, 612 Band, Merge Band, Todd Shoemaker, Chip the sound master, all the amazing volunteers and my sister, Bethany (photos) for the amazing evening. We were able to minister to over 200 students!! Next up.....Summer Tour 2008!

Anyone notice?

TV is just awful right now! NBC is showing re-runs of Dateline and every reality show in their repertoire. The only show I'm holding out for now is LOST. 2 hour season finale Thursday. No Office, 30 Rock, Smallville or any other show that would be interesting.

Firsts: Slurpee

Yes, last night I treated Roman to his first 7-11 Slurpee. Unfortunately the Coke flavor was not working so we settled for Cherry. He loved and his life has, again, been forever changed.

Firsts: Sea World trip

Yesterday Penny and I went to Sea World in Orlando with the boys. It was their first ever trip to a theme park and we learned the hard way that Jadon is NOT ready for any park, including Mickey. We actually left considerably earlier than planned, but crazy central Florida weather had something else to say about that! Notice Penny caring the heavy equipment as I click a pic.

How do you watch your movies?

Today Netflix just changed the way you and I will watch our movies at home. Home theatre all began for me in 1984 with a Montgomary Ward VCR. My family used that machine until 1996. I purchased my first DVD player in 2000 and the first DVD purchased was "The Matrix". We then used our PS2 as our entertainment center. 2 years ago we went to the Mac Mini as our preferred media center. We added a Miglia HD converter, an external hard drive to store our torrented movies/tv shows. Today will mark another change. Roku introduced the new Netflix Player which will allow you to view 10,000 movies and tv shows from a database. This will grow weekly and eventually will be HD and is easily upgradable (via firmware). Read more here. Sign up for Netflix here.

Some Thoughts...

I just got Neil Diamond's latest release. It's pretty good, after all he is the Jewish Elvis!

Been playing basketball on Monday evenings with some peeps from around. I think I'm doing alright, but dang do I feel old and crusty.

There is only one night of TV worth watching these days: Thursdays, must see TV. 30 Rock, The Office and Lost. Back to back to back. Nice.

I have been detailing our student ministry summer schedule. Should be one crazy summer once again. I look forward to partnering with a couple of student ministries through out the summer.

Can you believe whats going on around the world? China, Burma and well more locally, the Florida fires. We had one across the street yesterday.

I love baseball and our local team the Florida Marlins are unreal. They dump their best players in the off season to lessen their payroll, then they become baseballs best story this season. How cool would it be if they go to the playoffs?

American Idol is lame.

The Vatican said that it is ok to believe in aliens. Huh? Read more here.

Growing up Karl Malone was my favorite basketball player. I no longer have an ounce of repect for him after reading this article. Sad, very sad that pro athletes are so many times so irresponsible.

Todd Bentley is bootleg.

Your thoughts please! I have always been skeptical of a self-proclaimed revivalist. This video is of the latest person proclaiming a new word. His name is Todd Bentley and he is nuts. I cannot believe people follow this false teacher. As you watch the video notice how opposite the fruit that comes from this dude Todd's ministry compared to the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
"...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit."
Galatians 5:22-25

Our ministry

I was thinking about our particular student ministry and wondering how we compare to other ministries out there. We are portable, we meet on a public school campus for our large group environment and we use a bunch of second hand equipment. We have small group Bible studies on Sunday nights and we are very active on multiple campus'. I would not say we are huge ministry numerically but we do have a relatively large influence in the community. So what is your student ministry like? Lets compare notes.

Blood work with the boys!!

Tuesday is my new day off so I get to spend some special time with my fam. This morning around 8 I left our house with our oldest, Roman to go get his blood work and other medical test done. He was awesome until the nurse screwed up his first draw. She inserted the needle and then she wasn't paying attention and jerked the needle out of my sons arm. Freaked US out! So she had to re-draw blood from his other arm. Needless to say he wasn't to thrilled (neither was I!). All in all he did well (Better than me. I have to lay down to have blood drawn!). Jadon was next, so I went home, dropped of Roman and picked up JJ. We got to the lab, and it went as smooth as silk. Of course it was all with a different person drawing the blood.

Potential best friends?

It's amazing how fast my sons are warming up to ol' Grommit. I really think that Roman has potential to be best buds with old faithful.
