Why I like Apple

On Friday I made a Genius Bar appointment at our local Apple Store for Sunday afternoon. I have been experiencing some touch screen issues with my iPhone (original, not 3G). So today I brought it in to the Genius and without hesitation he said I'll get you a new one. So, I have a new iPhone. No too shabby eh?

Yawn....

Not impressed enough with the new iPhone to upgrade. I will finish out the life of my 1st generation iPhone and wait for the 3rd gen Phone. Mean while, I am excited for the iPhone 2.0. Some cool new things to come indeed.

My next iPhone case....

Gotta protect the prize! I love my iPhone. It's hard to believe that I got it almost a year ago!! I'm pretty anal about protecting it and have kept it from any major dings. This new case from some company I have never heard of is sick! It's hard case that snaps on with a hard shell OVER the screen which is touch sensitive. The cost isn't to shabby either. How do you protect your iPhone?

Should I update my iPhone?

Watch this video to see Playstations Twisted Metal 2 on my iPhone. Should I update the iPhone Firmware and lose these cool aps?

UPDATE: After updating the Firmware on Penny's phone I was not impressed with the new features enough to update mine. So no, I will not be updating.

iPod crap

Now that I am iPod-less for the first time in 5 years (read here), I am constantly looking for reasons to justify not ever purchasing another one. Podcasting News posted a holiday shopping guide for iPod accessories today and some of the garbage they feature is just plain crap! The one that I thought was most unusual is the "Rock My Teeth - The Next Generation In Tooth Whitening" or the "Doggie iPod Dock". I think I'll just stick to my iPhone, so I'm not tempted to purchase any of this garb.

ATTENTION: iPhone owners

A couple of months back I showed you all a way to pimp out your iPhone. Well Apple released a new firmware and messed up the whole App thing. Well it's back and better and easier than ever!! You MUST download the latest AppInstaller for your phone. It provides some amazing apps for your iPhone that Apple chose not to include. Just log into this site and click install, voila!!! Trust me, you want to do this!

iPhone pimped out!

I have officially pimped out my iPhone. I have added LOTS of applications and created my own look via Installer.

Production App's include: VNotes (digital voice recorder), Chat (duh), Navizon (GPS emulator), Text Edit, To Do List, iShare (access online storage), Send Song (you can send any song from your iPhone to anyone via e-mail; also, set any song on your phone as a ringtone!).

Customising App's include: Customize (customize your dock, header, and all other iPhone icons), rSBT (customize your Spring Board, or iPhone desktop. Put icons in any order wherever you want on the phone), SummerBoard (basically the premiere iPhone pimper, you do what you want to the look of your phone).

Gaming App's include: Sketches (pretty much Etch-A-Sketch for you iPhone. Write, shake, it disappears!), TTR (Tap Tap Revolution is very similar to Guitar Hero. Pick a song off of your iPhone and go at it!), Lights Off (an addictive game based on Lights Out), Tetris (HECK YEAH!), iBlackjack (duh).

If you own an iPhone this is the best way to get your phone looking the way you want it, running the 3rd party apps you want! For a list of Apps go here. Nice list of developed apps for the iPhone.

ATTENTION iPhone peeps....

You MUST watch this video. It will unleash the inner-beast of the iPhone. I can now play games (Tetris, Tap Tap Revolution, which is more like Guitar Hero for your iPhone than DDR). You can pimp out your phone with all different app's and it's simple. A little disclaimer for the video. There is an unnecessary little deal that you can't miss on the video. Other than that a very simple tutorial on the how to install all the app's on your iPhone. Screen shots to come!!!

Thanks Steve!

Dear Chris,

...we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.

We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.

Steve Jobs
Apple CEO

....I'll take it!

Cool iPhone Application

For those iPhone owners and even haters, I heard about a cool app from the Unofficial Apple Weblog this morning. It's from www.meebo.com and its a chat app. Works great! I tried it out on friend and blog-star TransitionPete this morning. You can set up for free here. Anyone else know of some free iPhone apps or programs?

Impressive.

Around 7 PM tonight my wonderful wife walked into the house with a brand new iPhone, for me! All I can say is WOW! All the hype, all of the criticism all of the anticipation. Here are my initial thoughts:
1. Easy setup - I had the iPhone all switched and synced within 30 minutes. That means e-mail, calendar, music, podcasts, contacts, etc. all synced. Not bad. The set up on iTunes was so easy. If I were an associate at an cellphone dealer I would be looking for a job, because this is the way to go with cell. No clueless dude trying to up sell you. Just simple iTunes.
2. Solid and durable - This phone is solid. I got a Speck case and a crystal film to lay on top. Perfect. I'm not at all worried about a scratched or broken screen.
3. Apps - All of the Applications are slick. From weather to email to clocks (you can keep time for all parts of the world!). Youtube, sweet. Safari, sweet. Maps, sweet. On and on. This phone is the ultimate gadget, practical gadget.
4. Packaging - The bag that Apple placed the iPhone in was amazing. It's like a cardboard box with ribbon on the sides. The box was typical Apple.
5. Line Hospitality - Penny said that the Apple employees were very kind. They gave away bottled water, cookies, brownies and a cool Apple key chain light. They really made it an "experience" as opposed to the AT&T guys who probably didn't know what to do, what's hospitality?

Did you get an iPhone? Do you want one? When will you take the dive? Want to buy a Cingular 8125 Pocket PC? Let me know.
